A passage from the book I’m reading that really resonated (Jim Butcher, Death Masks):

“Serve who?”
“Heaven. Or the divine in nature. The memory of my fathers past. My fellow man. Myself. All pieces of the same thing. Do you know the story of the blind men and the elephant?”
“Have you heard the one about the bear that walks into a bar?” I responded.
“I think that is a no,” Shiro said. “Three blind men were shown an elephant. They touched it with their hands to determine what the creature was. The first man felt the trunk, and claimed that an elephant was like a snake. The second man touched its leg and claimed the elephant was like a tree. The third man touched its tail, and claimed that the elephant was like a slender rope.”
I nodded. “Oh, I get it. All of them were right. All of them were wrong. They couldn’t get the whole picture.”
Shiro nodded. “Precisely. I am just another blind man. I do not get the whole picture of what transpires in all places. I am blind and limited. I would be a fool to think myself wise. And so, not knowing what the universe means, I can only try to be responsible with the knowledge, the strength, and the time given to me. I must be true to my heart.”
“Sometimes that isn’t good enough,” I said.
He tilted his head and looked up at me. “How do you know?”

It’s been a while.  I’m at the peak of busy at the moment.  Entries will be few and far between for about the next month or so.  But a lot of changes and important announcements coming up, some of the most important announcements of my life.  Hang in there…

A man went to the hospital to have his wedding ring cut off from his penis.

According to the nurse attending, the patient’s girl friend found the ring in his pants pocket and she got so mad at him, she used petroleum jelly to slip the ring on his penis while he was asleep.

I don’t know what’s worse:

1) Having your girl friend find out you’re married.
2) Explaining to your wife how your wedding ring got on your penis.
3) Or finding out your penis fits through your wedding ring.

Time crunch.

Not much time for an elaborate entry.  But, got the X-Box installed, and a big interview tomorrow.  Goodnight.

Long day

Long day at work, thankful that I have the job though.  Many people don’t right now, while I have several. 

Came home to a happy and comfy and relaxed TL.  So nice to see her like that.  Got some stuff done around the house that had to be done tonight, applied for a few more jobs, as I am looking to upgrade the pay of the ones I have now.  I’m not getting more hours, and I’m not getting raises, so I am looking elsewhere.  The time to ramp up, is now.  After that, I was too exhausted to even make dinner, so TL made me some Ramen, and we ended up watching one of my favorite movies ever, Gran Torino.  Clint Eastwood’s best.  If you’re a fan of him, you’ll enjoy the movie.  Clint reminds me of my Dad in the movie.  I gave him a copy several years ago, and I have a feeling that he has yet to watch it.  Anyways, she seemed to like it as well.

Central air is broken again, seems to be a freon leak this time.  Progress is being made.  Slow progress, but progress, nonetheless.  It needs to be fixed this week, as it’s not getting any cooler out.  I’m more worried about my server stack and computers and networking equipment overheating, and I’m concerned about TL overheating, a lot more than I am worried about myself.  In the meantime, I have backup window units keeping us survivable. 

I was nonstop crazy busy today, and to think, Sunday is my slow day.  It’s gonna be a long week.  Hopefully I’ll get everything accomplished that I have scheduled.  I have a lot to get done, and not enough hours in the day to get there.  But there’s a time crunch now, so I no longer have a choice. 

The next chapters of my life are upon me now.  More details on that later.

The Guild

I am loving a show, thanks to TL, called the Guild.  I’ve known about it, just never made time to watch it until she got me into it.  TL is so much like Felicia Day, it’s wicked.  I’ve had the pleasure of meeting both, and I’m telling ya, if TL had a sister, Felica would be her.  Just finished Season 3.  Thanks TL.  Thanks Netflix.

Had to format my main dekstop machine today, for the first time in years.  It’s nice to have everything up and running without any lockups.  I don’t have it up 100% yet, so it still feels a little foreign, but it’s work in progress, it’ll get done as soon as possible. 

A lot of the shows I used to shoot are starting to get lower and lower in attendance.  I don’t get why the EDM scene is so flaky around here.  Didn’t have this problem in KC, in Nashville, in Denver, in Dallas…  Maybe Wichita in general is flaky.  Do I want to spend the rest of my life here?  Do I want to raise a family here? 

Tomorrow starts a new week, and with that, another non-stop schedule.  Have to stay on task, have a lot of irons in the fire, I’m really hoping that TL will be understanding on how crazy busy my life is becoming, and not get bored from my lack of time with her.  Hoping that she doesn’t think I want to spend less time with her, when in fact, I want to spend more time than ever with her. 

I can read her like a book sometimes, but the lack of verbal communication is starting to get to me a little.  She’s getting better at it.  Have to keep telling myself that progress is being made. 

Time to shut down the network.  Equipment gets rest before I do.  Guess I really do put everything before me.  Kinda sad really.

Just another day in paradise, it’s an attitude not a location.

Not much.

Not much tonight.  Worried about a lot of stuff right now.  My girlfriend, mostly.  The future.  Finances.  Just to name a few.

Doogie.

Writing a daily blog makes me feel like an old version of Doogie Houser, MD.  I kinda wanna get a DOS machine going and install Microsoft Works 2.0 on it like he had in the show.  Project for later, when I have time. 

When will I have time for anything?  I’m starting to get to the age where the list gets much longer than the time I have to complete it.  Normally, I’d have a good answer, becoming independently wealthy is the goal, but unlikely to happen.  Winning the lotto?  Yeah, right.  I need that too badly for that to happen.  And retirement?  You’ve gotta be joking, right?  I’ll never see a damn dime of the social security benefits that I’ve put in.  This government is beyond broke.  This country won’t even be a country by the time I am retiring age.  How sad that is, because I’d like to have my future children to have it better than I had it, and I’m really having a hard time imagining that this will be possible.  Certainly hope I am wrong.  But times are changing drastically, you’d be a fool not to see it by now.

TL’s feeling sick, and there’s nothing that I can seem to do to help her feel better.  I feel horrible, and useless, because I know that I am the cause of her being sick, and there’s not much of anything that I can do about it. 

I’m trying to stay on schedule this week.  It’s one hell of a busy schedule.  As I get older, it’s getting harder and harder to keep up.  Definitely not a great feeling, but I’ll step it up and get it all accomplished.  I always find a way.

Ramble tech ramble

Life is good.  Life is going great actually, it’s really kind of weird.  Not used to things being this awesome, kind of makes me wonder what’s around the next corner, what bad thing is about to happen.  But until that happens, I’m really enjoying life for the first time in a long while.

Life is about to have some major changes, for the better.  I lot of things have been changing.  My last ducks, per say, are getting into a row, and I’m about ready to announce some life changes.  Nothing that I can talk about yet, but I have to say, the future is to be really adventurous and exciting, both personally, as well as professionally. 

I have been thinking, oddly enough, about Walter Cronkite, and how reliable journalism was back in his prime days, and how media news died along with him.  Heard a story about how when he was 19, he used to work at a radio station in Kansas City, doing news (was a new thing to do on radio back then), station owner came up to him about a breaking news story, about a severe fire that had killed two firefighters, and told him to announce it on the air.  Walter refused to air the story because it wasn’t confirmed.  Station owner went on the air himself and announced it without confirmation.  Turns out is was a minor fire, and no injuries even happened.  Station owner fired Walter the next day, even though Walter was in the right. 

No good deed goes unpunished. 

Integrity is everything.

I’m not in the market, but I’m curious about everyone’s take.  You’re not an Apple fan (boo for you), but you want a tablet.  Kindle Fire, new Google Nexus tablet, new Samsung tablet.  Which is these are you interested in, and why?  I am curious, and I have no opinion, as I would never get one of these devices.  I need to know what to recommend to people that are in this market.

Steve Jobs said there will never be a seven inch iPad.  There’s lots of rumors from some reliable sources stating that there’s going to be one coming out.  My first question, obviously is going to be, think it’s true?  If you think it’s true, does it interest you, will it be successful? 

And while I’m on an Apple kick, saw a Apple TV at the studio today, anyone see a huge advantage of one over my existing Roku players?  Or any other streaming players? 

I have been so busy with photography lately, that I haven’t been doing much tech work.  I miss tech work, and I think it’s about time to get more tech work ramped up. 

Anyone remember Geocities?  I miss sites like that, I miss how young and naive the Internet was back then.  Hell, I miss how young I was back then.  Man, if I were to do it all over again, and know what I know now, I’d be so much better off, financially, and professionally. 

I also miss doing technology shows on TechTV, and TechTV itself.  It was a much better time back then.
